Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.

Trailing by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now hit twenty-three October home runs, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it hurts" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
