The American champion Assured of Being 'in a good place' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She has an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
