Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
