Locating a Venezuelan-affiliated Oil Tanker 'Pursued' by the US Coast Guard

We are checking images and video circulated earlier today that depict the scene of a reported vehicle-borne explosive explosion that authorities in Russia state killed a senior soldier in Moscow.

Officials in Russia confirmed that Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov was in the vehicle that exploded and that he succumbed to his injuries. A probe is currently ongoing.

Our starting point to check the location from which the pictures were from was based on posts indicating the explosion happened on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern part of the Russian capital.

Our analysis employed street-view imagery on digital map platforms and the local mapping service Yandex Maps to match the unique yellow hue of a nearby apartment building seen in the video.

Identifying other buildings, streetlights and the street layout confirmed where the footage were taken.

Additionally, we verified that the video clips were new and that the visuals had not been manipulated.
