At the age of nineteenth year, my daily commute involved an packed public transport. It remained full and invariably became without any seats by the time I stepped aboard.
One particular morning, I started experiencing incredibly sick while the vehicle lurched around the bends. I repeatedly told myself to endure for a few more stops before the bus got to where I needed to get off, so I could then sprint quickly toward the most convenient washroom to be sick.
As we neared the avenue close to my stop and I realised I would not be to last. In an instant, it seemed a curtain fell over me. My vision turned white and really quiet; as if someone cut the sound. I thought, “I’m going to faint”.
Luckily I was near the front inside the vehicle, so I managed a few steps forward and asked the driver to open the doors, telling him that I was about to vomit. The driver opened the doors and I stumbled out onto the sidewalk.
I was resolved to avoid being sick in view of a busy multi-lane road, so I forced myself up and endeavored to stumble toward the green space across the road, where I thought I’d at least be able to find some privacy behind a bush to be sick. However I apparently lost consciousness. I sensed my physical self, yet I couldn’t walk and my vision was blurry, so I began inching my way to my intended destination.
“Are you okay, dear?”
Right then, I got scooped up. I sensed someone holding me and heard a man say, “Everything alright, love?” I managed to tell the unknown man that I had to to vomit. Therefore, he almost helped me walk into a nearby building and guided me into the female bathroom. He inquired whether I required him to stay with me but I said no.
After a short while, I felt better to the point of sitting on the toilet and from outside the stall I heard him inquire, “Do you need anything, love? Is there anything you require?” I wasn’t able to get up just then but I did succeed to say thank you and shortly thereafter regained the function of my limbs. I returned home passing the following days getting over what was later diagnosed as a nasty tummy bug.
I never glimpsed the stranger’s face – just his lower half along with a sizable container for tools he held – but he helped me, during a time when I was in my weakest state.
Often this world tends to make people self-protective, pushy, and rivalrous. What he did was the kind of action that melts away that protective shell. He demonstrated that people’s natural inclination is towards kindness, a trait I cherish in other people.
