Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
