One of the original creators behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company alongside his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new flavor within a personal series highlighting causes the company was barred from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators versus Parent Company

The recent development escalates the continuing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have asserted how the parent company and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem for Support

The entrepreneur stated through an Instagram video that he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder stated from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its colors, that mirror those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand which was first created several years back to support former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Future Plans

Mr. Cohen indicated that he will create additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on issues that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised following Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to advocate for its independence so that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
